Foreigners, including those of Indian origin, visiting India on a long-term visa (more than 180 days) or with a special endorsement on their visa requesting registration, must register with the relevant FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) within 14 days of their arrival in India.
The registration certificate issued upon arrival in India has a specific validity period. If the stay needs to be extended beyond this validity period, a visa extension must be obtained. This process is facilitated at the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) corresponding to the region where the individual is residing.
The RC/RP certificate serves as the official document confirming your registration with the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) in India, complete with a unique registration number. Upon obtaining an India X visa for the first time, applicants receive an email containing a PDF of their RC certificate.
An exit permit is necessary for individuals leaving the country when their visa has expired or when an extension application is pending consideration by the authorities. This permit allows travelers to depart the country provided they have a confirmed ticket, which is typically issued within 24 hours prior to travel.
